Businessman Clive Palmer, former leader and founder of the United Australia Party, who was ranked Australia’s fifth richest person in May 2025, returned to politics this year. For the 2025 federal election Palmer acquired a new party, Trumpet of Patriots, whose policies he said would be modelled on those of US president Donald Trump. Palmer failed to get elected and retired from politics.
