People Power and Making Change

Years:

5-8

Onsite experience

Cost

$7 per student, accompanying teachers free

Students will work collaboratively to learn about important people and objects from Federation to today and investigate their continued impact on our democracy. This experience takes place in our contemporary exhibition spaces.

Students will experience history where it happened by sitting in one of our historic chambers of parliament. They will unpack parliamentary roles and procedure to discuss how they can make change on issues that are important to them.

Students will:

  • use interactive technology to inquire and critically reflect on objects, images and artworks in exhibition spaces
  • work in small groups to answer questions and share discoveries
  • learn about the history of Old Parliament House and consider young people's role in our democracy
  • sit in either the historic House of Representatives or Senate chamber.
