'The Cost of not Living Crisis', Matt Golding, Nine Papers, 30 March 2025
The Cost of Not Living Crisis, by Matt Golding is a cartoon published in Nine Papers on the 30th of March 2025.
It is a single square panel depicting two dinosaurs against a simple landscape background of blue sky and orange earth. In the top left corner, a meteorite races towards them. On the left, a tall olive-green dinosaur on its hind legs with spikes down its back holds out a microphone and says, 'What’s your number one issue?'
On the right, a four-legged bright green dinosaur with spikes down its back looks up at the meteorite, and says, 'Cost of living.'
In the bottom right corner is the artist’s signature, 'Golding'.
The label text reads:
If we listen to the political dinosaurs, the cost of living is the most pressing issue affecting Australians. Climate change scientists might disagree, noting that Australia’s climate is already changing and calling for immediate action to reduce carbon emissions. Climate change is the ‘asteroid in the room’ that no-one wants to acknowledge.
