After several days of speculation, Peter Dutton was elected unopposed as Liberal Party leader. Sussan Ley, the former Minister for the Environment, was elected deputy. Dutton, a prominent member of the party's conservative faction, was described by his Liberal colleague Simon Birmingham as having a personality that was 'more complex ... than many people would appreciate'.
