It’s not quite a home among the gumtrees, nor a detached fibro dwelling on a quarter block. And when architectural visionary Robin Boyd said, ‘We need better architecture … more imaginatively exciting, more involving, more our own’, he probably wasn’t referring to this. Glen Le Lievre weaves together two possible messages here: that money set aside for new submarines could be better spent on housing, or perhaps that houses currently cost as much as nuclear submarines.
