Andrew Weldon’s cartoon is a snapshot of some insistent news stories in early 2025 that left many of us with a profound feeling of unease. The Australian federal election campaign was imminent, Donald Trump’s second presidency had kicked off and, in a rally celebrating Trump’s inauguration, Elon Musk gave us a gesture that resembled a Nazi salute. Ever-encroaching AI, widespread distrust in the media and a worsening outlook for the environment were all also reasons for anxiety.
