Free Range West Australians

Western Australia is depicted as an unlocked chicken coop. Residents are leaving, saying 'Buk buk' with masks on.

After nearly two years of lockdowns and border closures, Western Australia reopened its border to the rest of Australia and the world on 3 March 2022. The state had avoided the worst of COVID-19 waves that struck the rest of the country, but Omicron cases were circulating, and it was realised that keeping the border shut could not keep out the virus. Greg ‘Smithy’ Smith’s cartoon shows Western Australians finally allowed out of the ‘chicken coop’.
