While the 2022 pre-election Budget provided some relief for low- and middle-income earners in the form of a one-off payment of $420 and reduction of the fuel excise, it was bad news for those hoping for an increase in real wages. The Budget predicted that wage growth would remain only slightly higher than inflation.
