A New South Wales police officer, Senior Constable Kristian White, was charged with assault after he tasered a dementia patient in a nursing home. White and his fellow officer had been called to the home after Clare Nowland, a 95-year-old great-grandmother, refused to drop a steak knife she was holding. Nowland died in hospital a week later from injuries caused by the tasering.
