Two panels. First panel, the 'Commonwealth Games Federation' announces a new venue for the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Second panel, a man at a remote pub says, 'Looks like we won the bid', a voice replies, 'I suppose I'd better put the kettle on.'

In July 2023 then Victorian premier Daniel Andrews announced that, owing to escalating costs, the state would no longer be able to meet its commitment to host the regional 2026 Commonwealth Games. Warren Brown suggests a humorous alternative Australian venue.

JUDGE’S COMMENT
Brown speaks to the common man – his gags are finely honed, the subject matter is broadly accessible, the imagery is archetypal and quite retro, in the Australian tradition.
