After more than two decades of operation Rex Airlines went into administration in August this year. Primarily an airline that serviced the regional Australia, Rex had expanded to offer flights between domestic capital cities in 2020. Part of the blame for Rex’s fate was laid at the feet of Qantas and Virgin and their practice of ‘slot hoarding’ — scheduling more flights than you intend to run, then cancelling up to 20 per cent of them.
