The Australian Dream

A family says, 'The Australian Dream seems impossible these days.' Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says, 'Cheer up, it's closer than you think.' In his thought bubble, he rides away on a unicorn labelled Green Hydrogen.

Included in May’s budget was a Hydrogen Production Tax Incentive and various initiatives intended to position Australia as a ‘global hydrogen leader’ by 2030. At the time, Australia’s richest man, Andrew ‘Twiggy’ Forrest, was trying to pursue an ambitious plan to produce hydrogen made from renewable energy, but by July he had to significantly rein in his aspirations. Johannes Leak suggests green hydrogen is only a costly fantasy, pursued at the expense of everyday Australians.
