In response to the tragedy of veteran suicides, which resulted in the loss of more than 400 lives between 2001 and 2020, the Prime Minister announced a Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide in April. Its wide-ranging terms of reference promised to ‘examine and expose all systemic issues and risk factors … and implement actions’ to address them. 

The Museum of Australian Democracy acknowledges Australia's First Nations peoples as the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We respectfully acknowledge the role that First Nations people continue to play in shaping Australia's democracy.
