Ministers hit the airwaves to affirm the government’s position on a Tamil family whose asylum claims had been unsuccessful. When the Murugappans’ four-year-old daughter became seriously ill, Peter Dutton, Michaelia Cash and Karen Andrews (who took over the Home Affairs portfolio from Dutton earlier in the year) came out with hard-line statements. Cash warned of the ‘consequences of blinking’ on border security.
